Back To School Nerves

No matter how many first days of school go by, the back-to-school nerves come back without fail. Whether this be excitement or fear, we all experience it in some form. We subconsciously know the year ahead will hold heavy workloads, countless extracurriculars, and very long days. When you look at the school year as a whole, it’s terrifying to think about going through the process again. Already, you’re stressing out, worrying about the future instead of taking in what’s happening around you. We waste so much energy trying to please the people around us and live up to someone else’s standards. Aim to put in your best effort this year and block out the other voices of standards and expectations because you’ll drive yourself crazy within the first month trying to please everyone in your life. When you find yourself getting caught up in your head about whether you’re doing good enough or focusing on what people might think of you, take a deep breath and reset your mind to focus on yourself. The point of school is not trying to “fit in” and be liked by everyone around you; it’s to build community, focus on self-growth and set yourself up for a successful future. While it might be tempting to care about what other people think, when you consider a bigger picture, other people’s comments and opinions on you won’t matter after these four short years. Suppose you focus on growing and staying in touch with your emotions, being honest with yourself and communicating with a good community. In that case, high school will do nothing but benefit you and your future.
Stay Tuned,
Big Sis
